So, you want to help your young quarterback establish himself as one of the NFL’s A-list players and you’re an aspiring AFC power? Acquire Diggs. Perhaps he isn’t as well-known as he was when he was acquired by the Bills in 2020 to boost their offensive. He will turn 31 in November, and over his final 10 games, including playoffs, he seems to have concluded his time with the Bills with more drama than output (42.2 receiving yards per game). He won’t have to carry the strain, though, as he still finished in the top 10 in the NFL in terms of catches (107, seventh) and receiving TDs (eight, tied for ninth).

Put another way, Diggs’ presence should present possibilities for others even when he isn’t the one receiving the ball. When he does grab the ball, his potential should be higher than it was in 2023, when he recorded the third-lowest career per-catch average (11.1 yards). Notwithstanding the chaos in Buffalo, Diggs hastened Josh Allen’s ascent to fame. He will have contributed to the formation of NFL contenders for a second time if he can assist C.J. Stroud, the current Offensive Rookie of the Year, in making another move.

For the moment, let’s set aside conventional productivity metrics and focus on Allen’s primary responsibility, which he will share with nearly every player in Chicago (including recent trade addition Ryan Bates): assisting Caleb Williams in putting an end to the Bears’ decades-long quarterbacking ineptitude. As the most seasoned player in Williams’ strong supporting group, Allen is a very reliable target. He is one of only six NFL players to record 150 or more receptions with a catch percentage of 72% or higher in the last two seasons. I wasn’t in love

observing an unidentified executive musing in “The Athletic” discussing how Williams’ playing style would prevent him from moving fast enough for Allen. I’m also concerned about Allen’s age of 32 and injury history, as he has missed 11 games in the last two years. Nevertheless, it’s conceivable that he will be among Williams’ most reliable safety nets throughout this crucial season. Allen deserves to be ranked at least in the top two because he has the potential to permanently alter the course of Chicago’s pro football history.
