Steelers sign a sixth-round pick. Ryan Watts
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed another rookie draft selection to his first NFL contract.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed sixth-round pick Ryan Watts to his first NFL contract, the team confirmed this week.

Watts’ agreement with the Steelers will last four years. The financial terms of the contract have yet to be released. Watts is the Steelers’ third draft pick to sign his first deal, behind wide receiver Roman Wilson and defensive lineman Logan Lee.

Watts played 27 games for the Texas Longhorns, starting 22 of them, after transferring from Ohio State, where he appeared in only 19 games over two seasons. During that time, he recorded 100 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 quarterback hit, three interceptions, and six passes defended.

Watts will have an opportunity to earn a roster position right away, given the issues surrounding Pittsburgh’s cornerback situation. Joey Porter Jr. is the clear No. 1, and veteran Donte Jackson is now in position to fill another starting spot on the outside. Still, the Steelers require depth and a starting slot cornerback, which might offer Watts an opportunity to shine quickly. However, he will have to outperform a slew of other young prospects in order to succeed.
