Chiefs news: Clyde Edwards-Helaire re-signs with Kansas City on one-year contract
According to sources, the Chiefs have re-signed Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a fifth season.

This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs have continued to re-sign several of its own free agents, despite a somewhat lacklustre market for many players. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, a running back, is the latest athlete to return for another year.

According to sources, Edwards-Helaire re-signed with the Chiefs on Tuesday afternoon on a one-year deal that will bring him back for a fifth season, which is an odd move given that the Chiefs did not exercise a fifth-year option on him last year.

According to sources, the Chiefs have re-signed Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a fifth season.
While the specifics of the arrangement are undisclosed at press time, any deal for Edwards-Helaire is believed to be low-cost given his track record of output over the last four years.

Edwards-Helaire joined the Chiefs as a former first-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft. While he remained with the organisation during his rookie season, Edwards-Helaire never lived up to the draft hype of being the first at his position taken overall and the team’s sole first-round prospect since Patrick Mahomes was selected in 2017.

Edwards-Helaire was expected to find a new home in free agency as a change-of-scenery signing, but that was clearly not the case in a market oversaturated with household names at the position, including Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Tony Pollard, and Josh Jacobs.

Last season, Edwards-Helaire had 70 carries for 223 yards and one score on the ground for the Chiefs.
