“Nobody is Comparing,” says Joe Scarborough, clearing up the strange conversation about the “militarized” Louisville Police. From Breonna Taylor to Scottie SchefflerAfter talking about the golfer’s arrest, morning Joe anchor Joe Scarborough had to make it clear that his program was not drawing comparisons between Scottie Scheffler and Breonna Taylor.
Scheffler was taken into custody as he arrived at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky early in the morning to play in the second round of the PGA Championship. A shuttle vehicle had struck and killed someone before he arrived. Consequently, the club was only allowing access to players.
Scheffler was handcuffed and ordered to get out of the car when he tried to drive past the police to enter. Subsequently, the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections processed him and brought charges against him for assaulting a police officer, criminal mischief, careless driving, and disobeying traffic-directing officers’ signals.
Elise Jordan remarked, “So this is the same police force that shot and killed Breonna Taylor,” during the Friday Morning Joe show. “How did that get resolved?”
The police officers connected to Taylor’s killing, according to Al Sharpton, “were not punished to the degree of the law.”
Sharpton went on, “You’re dealing with justice in Louisville, which is something Breonna Taylor’s mother and others have been discussing for a long time. The policeman’s lack of curiosity about the reason behind the driver’s continued driving seems ludicrous. Nothing. Not questioned. Say, “Wait, there’s something I told you.” I’ll hop on the car to put an end to you. This, after all, is the mindset that Breonna Taylor and others in the Louisville region were subjected to.
Scarborough tried to correct the conversation at that point by jumping in.
He continued, “And obviously, nobody is drawing comparisons between this and Breonna Taylor.”
Jordan then made an effort to elaborate on her opening remarks.
She stated, “My point is simply that the police are highly militarized.”
