Pat Mahomes discusses bringing the deep ball back to the Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes claims that the Chiefs’ offense’s deep ball element will return by 2024.
Throughout the Mahomes and Reid era, the Chiefs have found numerous ways to win football games. Patrick Mahomes rose to prominence early in the dynasty for throwing deep bombs to the quick Tyreek. Mahomes recently suggested that the deep ball could return in 2024.
Mahomes was featured on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show. He discussed a range of issues, including the Chiefs’ deep passing game.
“I think this year we’re going to have a team that’s built to throw the ball deep,” Mahomes stated. “Coach Reid has been preaching it all offseason: we’re going to get back to throwing deep balls. I have to be strategic when we do that, but I also want to be the explosive offence that we’ve seen in the past, which relieves pressure on the defence.”
Kansas City has failed to identify an established wide receiver after Tyreek Hill was moved to Miami two years ago.
This offseason, the Chiefs recruited a pair of quick wide receivers who might be deadly in the deep passing game. The Chiefs acquired free agent Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who ran a 4.27 40-yard sprint at his Oklahoma pro day in 2019.
