USC Trojans’ Top 10 Returners for 2024

Analysing returning players at each institution is a difficult assignment in the transfer site section. As a result, we’ve added transfer-portal athletes to each team’s roster page to kick off spring camp, in addition to the rostered players from previous year.

10. Mason Cobb, LB
Mason Cobb will be in his second season with the Trojans, having transferred from Oklahoma State prior to the 2023 season. It will be the seasoned linebacker’s fifth season in college football, and his steady tackling and performance should strengthen the USC linebacker corps even more than it did last year.

Cobb led the Trojans with 85 tackles last season, along with seven tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and one pass defence. The USC linebacker’s production has been constant, with 96 tackles and a second-team All-Big-12 pick in 2022.

9) Jayden Maiava, quarterback.
Jayden Maiava has thrown up a starting spot at UNLV to join the Trojans, despite Miller Moss appearing to be the starter. It’s an unusual move for Maiava (who had committed to Georgia before switching to USC), who believes he can compete for the starting spot.

According to preseason reports, there is open rivalry between the two quarterbacks, and if Maiava serves as the backup, there will be few better backup passes in the country.

In 2023, Maiava completed 224 of his 353 throws for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, leading the Rebels to their first winning season since 1984. After redshirting in 2022, the quarterback was named the 2023 College Football Network Freshman Quarterback of the Year.
