Garrett Riley is leaving TCU to become CLEMSON’s offensive coordinator.
A good season risks losing assistant coaches, and the TCU staff has been looted for the first time.
It’s a large one.
According to a source, Garrett Riley, the offensive coordinator who transformed the Horned Frogs into a juggernaut and quarterback Max Duggan into the Heisman Trophy runner-up, has been hired at Clemson.
Riley, the Broyles Award winner as the nation’s outstanding assistant coach, did not respond to a message from Frogs Today. According to a source, Riley will receive a significant raise at Clemson, which won national championships in 2016 and 2018.
TCU lost 65-7 in the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday. The Frogs finished second in the Associated Press and Coaches polls.

Cowboys Stadium to host BYU-TCU
- Brigham Young and TCU will play on October 28 at Cowboys Stadium in a nationally televised game on ESPN2.
The game rounds out TCU’s schedule, which has yet to be officially released. It takes the place of a previously scheduled BYU matchup at Louisiana Tech on November 5.
The BYU-TCU game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET.
It will be the second time BYU and TCU have met at Cowboys Stadium. On September 5, 2009, the Cougars played the inaugural college game in the venue, defeating Oklahoma 14-13, and TCU opened its 2010 Rose Bowl-winning season there, defeating Oregon State 30-21.TCU coach Gary Patterson stated unequivocally that he would not contemplate playing BYU after learning that the Cougars were leaving the Mountain West Conference in August.
“If you’re BYU, you better be careful what you wish for,” Patterson said in August. Four months later, TCU revealed plans to depart the Mountain West for the Big East in time for the 2012 season. On Thursday, officials announced that the two teams would clash.
BYU and ESPN are in the first year of an eight-year agreement that will see the network broadcast all BYU home games as well as neutral site contests in which the Cougars are the designated home team. In addition to the TCU game, ESPN has announced that the Central Florida-BYU game on September 23 and the Utah State-BYU game on October 30 will both air at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.LSU and Oregon will also play in the Cowboys Classic on September 3 at the stadium. The game will be broadcast on one of the ESPN channels.
