She Is Back : Patty Gasso is pleased to announce the return of …………..

OU softball captain Kinzie Hansen is ‘day to day’ with a knee injury as the Sooners await Baylor.
Kinzie Hansen, the OU softball captain, has a knee condition that has hampered her recently and may continue to do so.

“She has a little tweak in her knee that we don’t want to mess with right now,” Sooners coach Patty Gasso said Tuesday. “We’re just being really cautious. Riley Ludlam has done an excellent job in his position. So it is basically day-to-day. She isn’t out for the season or anything; we’re just taking it day by day.”

Hansen had only one at-bat in five games last week, hitting a home run in Friday’s series opener against Texas Tech, but he left the game shortly after and did not return in the series.

Hansen is now hitting.367 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs. Hansen had thrown out three of the five runners who attempted to steal from her.

Ludlam has performed admirably as Hansen’s replacement at catcher, hitting.385 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in 26 games (12 starts).

With Hansen injured, the Sooners had to organise a tryout for another catcher in case the need arose.

Gasso stated that if Ludlam is unavailable before Hansen’s return, Alynah Torres will serve as OU’s emergency catcher.

Oklahoma catcher Kinzie Hansen (9) points to the dugout after hitting a double during an NCAA softball game between Oklahoma (OU) and Liberty on opening day of Oklahoma softball stadium Love's Field in Norman, Okla., on Friday, March 1, 2024.

The Sooners (27-1, 6-0 Big 12) will face UT-Arlington at 6 p.m. on Wednesday before returning to Big 12 action this weekend against Baylor at 6 p.m. on Friday at Oklahoma City’s USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium, followed by games at Love’s Field on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
