Wests Tigers halfback Jayden Sullivan set for early exit as four-year deal backfires

Jayden Sullivan’s tenure at the Wests Tigers looks set for a premature end, with the club expected to grant the young playmaker a release at the end of 2024.

After a rocky stint at the Dragons, the 22-year-old moved to Concord this season with the hopes of becoming the long-term halfback under coach Benji Marshall.

Sullivan signed a four-year deal with the Tigers and has played eight games this season despite initially being overlooked for Aidan Sezer and Lachlan Galvin, but looks to be headed overseas to continue his rugby league career.

Wide World of Sports can confirm that the Tigers have found a suitor for Sullivan in the Super League and are expected to part ways with the No.7 at season’s end.

Reports emerged last week that Hull FC were interested in acquiring Sullivan, who has shown glimpses of his potential during his up-and-down NRL career to date.

The club is yet to comment on Sullivan’s potential departure.

Sullivan played in the halves during the side’s capitulation against St George Illawarra in round 14, scoring a try in the first half before being sin binned after half-time.

His role in the pecking order at the Tigers was immediately overshadowed by the signing of Jarome Luai for next year, coupled with the emergence of young talent such as the aforementioned Galvin and Latu Fainu.

Adam Doueihi is also pushing for a return to the line-up, with the injury-riddled utility expected to play NSW Cup this weekend and trained with the side on Monday.

Brent Naden is also poised for a move away from the Tigers next year, while the joint-venture are also in advanced talks to bring in an unnamed English forward in 2025.

Marshall’s side are sitting at the bottom of the NRL ladder after a promising start to the season has come undone after losing nine-straight games.

They will take on the Gold Coast Titans in round 15.
