Miami Dolphins Sign Jaylen Waddle to Contract Extension

The Miami Dolphins announced that wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has signed a contract extension through the 2028 season.

Miami selected Waddle in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He has started 47 games for Miami, totaling 251 receptions for 3,385 yards (13.5 average) and 18 touchdowns. In 2023, he became the franchise’s first player to have three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He holds the Dolphins’ record for the most receiving yards in the first three years of a career, as well as the rookie records for receptions (104) and receiving yards (1,015).

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle should benefit from Tyreek Hill's addition

Waddle won the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award in 2021, as decided by the South Florida media. He was the Dolphins’ first rookie to win the club MVP award since Zach Thomas in 1996. Waddle was chosen to the PFWA All-Rookie Team for 2021. He was a collegiate athlete at Alabama.

Your thoughts on the Tyreek Hill contract issue!

Last week, I mentioned that Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared to be looking for a raise from the Dolphins due to the contracts signed by Jaylen Waddle (extended 3 years, 84.75 million) and Justin Jefferson (extended 4 years, 140 million). Given his performance, I doubt anyone would be surprised if Hill and his agent felt he deserves a hike from his present contract. Tyreek is now in the second year of a four-year contract extension with the Dolphins worth $120 million. You may find the full terms of his contract HERE.

I also included a poll in the post. The question in the poll was-

The outcomes were—

Nothing! He signed the deal, so live up to it! (77 votes, 42%)
Trade him while you can and pocket the cap savings! (41 votes, 22%)
Rework his current contract to put his salary more in line with the top WRs in the NFL. (36 votes, 19%)
Extend him and increase his average compensation, bringing him in line with the NFL’s top wide receivers. (31 votes, 17%)
Here are some of your ideas and responses to the question of the day:

Tryagain1216 did not respond explicitly to Hill, but would like to see changes in the collective bargaining agreement about how NFL contracts work.
