Jelly Roll Calls Himself ‘Worst Criminal Ever’ on ‘Howard Stern’
“My success rate in evading the police is zero and twenty,” Jelly Roll added.
When Jelly Roll appeared on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday (June 12), he discussed his previous arrests — and told an amusing anecdote about one of them.
“You must have been the worst drug dealer because you were busted like 47 times,” Stern told Jelly Roll in one segment of the conversation.
“So bad,” Jelly Roll said. “I was the worst criminal ever.”
“How did you get caught so much?” Stern inquired, to which Jelly Roll said, “My success rate in evading the cops is zero to twenty. But I was probably 15 years old when I got arrested while on a Xanax bar, Howard — I’ve never told this story, but you know how Xanax makes you slow anyway? And in my thoughts, when the cops pulled us up, I was thinking, ‘I’m going to run.’ So I opened the door and imagined jumping out, sprinting across a field, and nearly making it. I was so obese and Xanaxed that I stood out and hardly took two steps.”
Jelly Roll laughed and said, “The cop was standing there watching me, and I fell.” And finally, he simply laid on top of me. He felt so sorry for me, he didn’t even prosecute me for attempting to flee.”
Of course, Jelly Roll has exchanged arrests for chart-topping tunes, sold-out headlining concerts, and lead performances on festival stages, like as his latest appearance at Nissan Stadium as part of CMA Fest in downtown Nashville. Jelly Roll recently scored his fourth straight No. 1 Country Airplay success with “Halfway to Hell,” and he recently released “I Am Not Okay,” the first song from his new album. He also has a number of headlining gigs scheduled for his Beautifully Broken Tour, which begins in August.
