Edmonton Elks select defensive lineman Alfano in the CFL supplementary draft.

TORONTO—The Edmonton Elks selected Antonio Alfano, a defensive tackle from Lackawana College, in the CFL supplemental selection on Tuesday.
Alfano was the only player chosen. By selecting Alfano, the Elks gave up their eighth-round pick in the 2025 CFL draft.

The supplemental draft is for players who did not declare as Canadians in time for the CFL draft, which took place this year on April 30. Edmonton opened the ’24 draft by selecting Cincinnati linebacker Joel Dublanko with the first pick.

Alfano, who stands six feet four and weighs 285 pounds, is a New Jersey native who qualified for the national team since his mother is from Toronto. In five games at Lackawana College last year, he recorded 14 tackles (eight for loss), four sacks, and a forced fumble.

Alfano also made appearances in Alabama (2019), Colorado (2020), and Independence Community College (2021).

Eugene Lewis, an Edmonton Elks player, says his recent journey to Africa has altered his life.

Eugene Lewis had a life-changing experience.

The Edmonton Elks receiver was one of six Canadian Football League players who spent a week on a trip in Africa last month. Lewis, like many others, had seen the commercials requesting help for the less fortunate, but they did not prepare him for his up-close-and-personal visit.

“It opened up my eyes to seeing a different part of the world and understanding what being grateful really, really is,” Lewis stated. “You understand how many possibilities there are in North America.

“We can decide if I want to go to work today. ‘Do I feel sick?’ In Kenya and other parts of Africa, you have no choice but to get up. You must have a purpose every day to assist your family live, survive, and succeed.

Lewis was one of nine CFL players who served as World Vision ambassadors. On a voyage to the Philippines, Montreal Alouettes safety Marc-Antoine Dequoy was joined by receivers Tim White (Hamilton Tiger-Cats), Reggie Begelton (Calgary Stampeders), and Nic Demski (Winnipeg Blue Bombers).

Lewis, linebackers Bo Lokombo (BC Lions) and Henoc Muamba (retired Toronto Argonaut), receiver Dominique Rhymes and linebacker Tyron Vrede (all Ottawa Redblacks), and defensive lineman Miles Brown (Saskatchewan Roughriders) also took part in the expedition to Africa.
